In this month’s newsletter, we discuss the fiduciary standard and the commodity market.
We hope you and your family are enjoying the start of fall!
In recent years, you may have heard the term “fiduciary” used in the media. Some wealth advisors are held to the fiduciary standard, while others are held to a suitability standard. Below you will find a short video that explains the differences between these terms and what it means for the quality of advice and guidance you receive.
At Barry, we are proud to serve as a fiduciary for our clients. If you have any questions about what that means or would like to discuss the topic further, don’t hesitate to connect with our team.
This chart shows the relationship between the S&P Commodity Index and the S&P 500. The oil crises of 1973, the Gulf War, and the 2008 Financial Crisis were three periods when commodities were very expensive relative to equities.
Today, we see just the opposite, with commodities being extremely cheap relative to equities. In fact, the last time we saw commodities this cheap relative to equities was during the Tech Bubble of 2000.
This is another reminder of how expensive stocks are today relative to their historical norms.

A spice company for all occasions
The highlight this month is one of Whitney's favorites. Penzey Spices is headquartered in her home state of Wisconsin, but does have a local location in Arlington, MA. The quality of their spices and rubs is excellent and they put together beautiful gift boxes. We thought that you might like incorporating them into your kitchen, or the kitchen of friends and family who enjoy cooking.
