Electrifying everything from cars to industrial processes will be expensive, time-consuming, and logistically challenging. The amount of money needed to accomplish a fraction of what world governments are targeting would be astronomical, and it would require the creation of millions of new jobs, the invention of dozens of new technologies, and a concerted global effort. But the goal of eliminating our dependence on fossil fuels is not unattainable; governments and companies around the world are bringing in the capital necessary to build infrastructure that will allow electricity to be generated, transported, and consumed on a massive scale.
