According to the FDA, as many as 30 million Americans suffer from hearing loss, but only about 20% of them get help. This is largely due to the costs associated with treatment for hearing loss, like testing, specialist appointments, and the cost of hearing aids (currently around $5,000 for a pair)—and in most cases, these costs are not covered by insurance. Fortunately, a new FDA rule aims to change that and provide Americans with an affordable option to deal with hearing loss: over-the-counter hearing aids.
