For decades, automakers have tried to perfect the technology that would give us self-driving cars. Some automakers, like Tesla, have gotten close in recent years, but the technology is still not considered suitable for widespread adoption. But that could change in 2023, as autonomous vehicles (AVs) from different manufacturers are set to roll out in multiple areas across the country. In this Wired article, Dmitri Dolgov—co-CEO of Waymo, an AV company—explains why he believes 2023 could finally be the year we see self-driving cars across the country.
