There are several times when you can enroll in Medicare. The initial enrollment period is when you first sign up for Medicare. The special enrollment period applies to people who had healthcare coverage through their employer when they were first eligible for Medicare. The general enrollment period is if you missed your initial or special enrollment period and occurs January 1st – March 31st each year. The Medicare open enrollment period for 2021 coverage is now until December 7th this year. During this time, you can join, drop, or switch your Part D drug plan, switch your current Medicare Advantage plan into a new one, or switch from Part A & B into a Medicare Advantage plan or vice versa. Now is the time to review your coverage and explore other options.
